TV Critique: Scorpion

The television series “Scorpion” follows a team of geniuses as they are tasked with complex problems that can only be solved by the team. The team is led by Walter O'Brien, one of the smartest people with a high IQ (he states that it’s higher than Albert Einstein). The team also consist of Paige Dineen, a down to earth person with superior communication skills. Toby Curtis (DOC) who is a trained and licensed phycologist and doctor hence his nickname “DOC”. Happy Quinn a smart and talented Mechanical Prodigy. Sylvester Dodd (SLY) a mathematical genius that is always calculating the odds. Cabe Gallo (Gallo) a Homeland security personnel and the lead contact for team Scorpion. The team also has Ralph Dineen on the team a very intelligent middle school student that is taking college classes. Everyone on the team expect for Paige and Gallo have a lower EQ (Emotional Intelligence) and aren’t the greatest at communicating with others. This is where Paige steps in and communicates for her team. I would say that Scorpion shares similar show elements from The Big Bang Theory (the use of intelligent) and any cop or medial mystery television series that have a new case to solve every episode. The show is target towards a male audience ages 25 to 35 years old based on the content of the shows content and ads that are placed within the show.

Algorithms: YouTube VS. Content Creators VS. Viewers. What is YouTube’s algorithm system, and how does it affect YouTube Creators? When we think of algorithms, the first thing to look at is the what the word is and how it’s being used by YouTube. Algorithms are “a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer” which is from the Greek word “arithmós” meaning “numbers” (“Algorithm – Definition Of Algorithm In English | Oxford Dictionaries”). YouTube uses algorithms to find videos that may be infringing on copyright laws. YouTube further uses algorithms to help viewers find similar videos and videos they may like. There are currently some major positives for content creators and viewers with the current algorithms systems that are in place. However, there’s also some major problems with the current algorithm systems that have seriously affected content creators. Including a brand-new algorithm system that’s affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Transgendered, Queer (“LGBTQ+”) community.

The Life of Television a Self-Reflection Essay: By Donald Louch. Television (TV), what is it to me? Is it a form of digital technology or is it content? For me, I view TV as a combination of both digital technology and content, but with a heavier focus on content. I think you need to have some form of digital technology, be it a TV box or set, or be it a computer screen or mobile phone so that you can display the content. Here is a brief history of TV from my perspective in life.

Hegemony Theory: Bubble Teas Popularity in The Western Culture

On:Donald Louch | Posted on: | School, Essay, Paper, MEDI 215, Bubble Tea, Hegemony Theory, Popular, Popularity, Western Culture, Popular Culture

Hegemony theory, what is it? Hegemony theory is looking at the results of an item through its active consumption of it. I’ll be defining and researching the different elements of bubble tea (as the consumption) that has made bubble tea popular in the western culture (as the results). I’ll further be defining popularity as something that is well-known and well-liked by people in a certain culture, which in this case is the western culture. Bubble tea is popular in our culture from elements such as the history behind it, to the kawaii look and concept, to the title of ‘bubble tea’, and lastly to the effects that the social media presence has had on it. With this, the hegemony theory of bubble tea has made it very popular or dare I say mainstream in western culture.

It’s amazing the difference one bracket can do to a computer. In the past year, I noticed that my Mac was getting slower. I know, that due to heavy usage over time, hardware can break down and become slow. However, I noticed that the performance gradually decrease and then around three months ago, I noticed a majorly fast decrease in speed. Furthermore, I haven’t had the Mac for a long time and I spent a fair bit of money on the Mac. Therefore, I thought it was a little odd how quick my Mac became slow.
